The city of Scotstown, in the Townships, inaugurated last year a multifunctional gravel and winding track in the forest, with a length of 8.3 km (16.6 km one way -return), for biking and hiking. You can also do an additional 4.5 km stretch, thus extending the trail inside the Franceville sector of Mont-Mégantic National Park on the Vallée trail. From Walter-McKenzie Park in Scotstown, the route has many stops decorated with interpretive panels, picnic tables and lovely viewpoints, on the banks of Rivière-au-Saumon and along McLeod Creek.
Scotstown is ready to welcome you! From the Patriots' weekend to Thanksgiving weekends, you can practice cycling and hiking.
The park is closed during a short hunting season until mid-December. In mid-December, the park is reopened to tourists and again accessible until the thaw for snowshoeing, to practice your favorite winter sports, cross-country skiing as long as you open your own tracks.
Please note that the parking lots at the Scots swamp and the Franceville colony are not cleared during the winter.
We offer 8.3 kilometers of multifunctional track, one way totaling 16.6 kilometers for the round trip. You can continue for another 4.5 kilometers, directly extending our track inside the Franceville sector of Mont-Mégantic National Park (PNMM) (Vallée track).
There is no access fee for the section inside the PNMM. This will take you to the Beavers' stop; this magnificent family hike totaling just over 25 kilometers (round trip) will be one of your favorites, that's for sure!
Parking lots are offered, at three locations: 1 Walter-Mackenzie Park in Scotstown, 2 Gazebo at the outlet of McLeod stream, 3 Facing the Franceville entrance to the PNMM. For the two parking lots located on Franceville Road, continue 4 kilometers past the village of Scotstown.
Route from Montreal or Sherbrooke to get to Scotstown, inTownships
From Montreal, highway 10 of the Eastern Townships towards Sherbrooke and Sherbrooke, by the 108 or the 112 East, take route 214 to Scotstown. We invite you to comply with the regulations, in particular for your safety during the closed season for hunting. We insist on respect for the environment and the obligation to report your waste.
Remember that our track is gravelled and entirely in the forest (We recommend that you have a hybrid or mountain bike). It is safe because there is no motorized vehicle traffic. Not being built on an old railway, it offers a winding and allows pleasant access to families.
In addition, it is not because our park has taken the name of a swamp that the insects will pedal faster than you: note that the track only crosses our emblem "the swamp" which is also a superb ecosystem . The track is punctuated by stops, either along theRiver Salmonor McLeod Creek.
These stopping places present several panels of interpretation of the fauna, the flora, the forestry and the history of the famous train Log hauler. Besides, your children will be able to embark on our replica and make their own scenario! Two short hiking trails offer beautiful views and picnic tables. A more than perfect lunch with the sound of waterfalls!
The section inside the PNMM is just as magnificent. The quality of reception, infrastructure and services of SÉPAQ is no longer to be demonstrated. Do you want to extend with a hike on the crest of Franceville or on the brand new escarpment trail? Wow! Do you want to stay overnight? Camping? Chalet ? Huttopia tent? Nothing is missing!
