Saint-Ludger de Beauce, near Lac-Mégantic, Québec, Canada

Saint-Ludger de Beauce
The first settlers arrived around 1883.

The name chosen to identify the village reminds the brother François-Amable-Ludger who drowned in 1876, and Bishop Ludger Stubborn, friend the first missionary of the place.
Saint-Ludger The mission officially created by a decree of His Excellency the Cardinal Taschereau, Archbishop of Quebec, officially defining the mission of St-Ludger Risborough County Beauce. Although its canonical erection occurs as a parish in 1932, it is a civil parish in 1896 and 1921 in village municipality
During the following decades, quarrels between villagers and country people behind the creation of three municipalities of the Canton of Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-est, the Village of Saint-Ludger and Risborough Party Marlow Municipalitymunicipalities.

Differently and too often tossed between the counties of Beauce and Compton at the federal level, our  Finally, all three found themselves in Beauce in 1972. Unfortunately, the Federal Ordinance 1996 Representation divided, one again, our parish between Beauce formunicipality and Frontenac-Mégantic for the other two, which fortunately also remained all three united in Beauce-Sud at the provincial level.

Since, cooperation and efforts of our people allowed early 1998, the consolidation of our three municipalities into one, Saint-Ludger, making again coincide parish and municipal boundaries
Our municipality (1,208 inhabitants) is located on the Chaudière River and our communication channels, parallel to the river, we lead naturally to the two poles of attraction that are first Saint-Georges de Beauce and Quebec.

The municipality is again part, in its entirety, Beauce federal and Beauce-south provincial level.

Saint-Ludger, our municipality is in the northeastern part of the MRC du Granit on the banks of the Chaudière River. Far from Lac-Mégantic about 35 km and located 15 km to the south by the Municipality of St-Gédéon de Beauce, this town remains one of the prettiest in the region. Agriculture, maple, industries related to maple products and clothing, wood processing and sawmill by machining and metal fabrication industries are characteristic of ludgéroise economy. Municipality Township Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east


Note that this municipality has not existed since 25 February 1998. Indeed, at that date, the municipality of Canton Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east The municipality of Risborough and the village municipality of Saint-Ludger regrouped to form the new municipality of Saint-Ludger. The name Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east, however, was preserved and now identifies a sector corresponding to the territory of the former municipality of the same name. The following is one that was written to describe the former municipality of the Township of Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east.
The name of this Eastern Townships municipality comes from that of the canton where it is located, the canton of Gayhurst having been proclaimed in 1868, and it includes the rental accurately mark its location in the administrative entity. It was borrowed from a small village in Buckinghamshire the name of this municipality Townships Township, created in 1905 near Lac-Drolet, west, bordering the boiler, although already in 1863, according to Stanislas Drapeau, the place had "18 families or 70 people, all of French-Canadian origin."
In 1921, part of the territory of Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east was detached to form the village municipality of Saint-Ludger, which takes the name the parish founded in 1892. The reason for the separation was based on economic reasons, part of the population refusing to pay for the construction of sidewalks!


Municipality Risborough
Note that this municipality has not existed since 25 February 1998. Indeed, at that date, the municipality of Risborough, the village municipality of Saint-Ludger and the municipality of Canton Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-is regrouped to form the new municipality of Saint-Ludger.
The name Risborough however was preserved and now identifies a sector corresponding to the territory of the former municipality of the same name. The following is one that was written to describe the former municipality of Risborough. At about 25 km northeast of Lac-Mégantic, between Saint-Robert-Bellarmin and Audet in Estrie, this is originally known as the administrative entity municipality of the united townships of Risborough-and-Partie-of-Marlow .
This designation was dependent on the geographical location of the municipality, partly in the township of Risborough proclaimed in 1920, but in 1871 that identified the post office and which appeared on the map of Gale and Duberger in 1795 and partly in that of Marlow, dating back to 1850. These two place names evoke one hand a city of England (Monks Risborough Princes Risborough or in Buckingham), and also a city of the same Buckinghamshire.


In 1992 estimated municipal name too long by the citizens and no real foundation in the use has been reduced to Risborough. Officially established in 1901, the municipality has over 1,000 inhabitants spread over an area of over 89 sq km, watered by the river Samson.
The former constituting Marlow sparked once the Marloins shield to collectively identify citizens and conveyed a touch fun. Marginal agriculture, a major logging and many hunting and fishing activities characterize this municipality.

Minuscule area of just 0.2 square kilometers and counting around 200 inhabitants, the Municipality of Saint-Ludger, commonly referred once as Saint-Ludger-de-Frontenac, is located in the northeastern part  the ofMRC duGranit,on the south bank of the boiler. Remote Lac-Mégantic about 25 km, and located 15 km south of Saint-Gédéon, this town remains one of the prettiest in the region.
Agriculture, the dairy industry and the related industries to maple products and sportswear are the characteristic of the ludgéroise economy. Arrived on the scene in 1883, the first settlers of Saint-Ludger-de-Risborough, as designated places at the time, will be served, on the religious level, by the parish priest of Saint-Samuel du Lac-Drolet from 1887.
Detached from Saint-Samuel, the mission of Saint-Ludger officially born in 1892 and, although its canonical erection occurs as a parish in 1932, she was a civil parish in 1896 and municipality Village in 1921, cut out of the territory of the municipality of the Township of Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-est, further west.


Besides, quarrels between villagers and country people are behind the creation of the past as well as that of Risborough-and-Partie-of-Marlow in 1901. The name, which also identifies the Post Office opened in 1898, was detained at the request of Monsignor Henri Tetu (1849-1915), author of numerous books including
Bishops of Quebec (1889). He wanted to remember her brother, François-Amable-Ludger,also priest, who drowned accidentally in 1876 at Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière. On the other hand his father's name as well and Father Ludger Stubborn was a dear friend of the first missionary of the place, Garon Samuel (1843-1919), pastor of St. Sebastian from 1878 to 1888.

1887 Appointment of the first resident priest of St. Samuel parish. Foundation's mission Saint-Ludger-de-Risborough.

1892 Appointment of the first resident priest of the parish of Saint-Ludger and start of construction of the parish church.

1896 (July 20) Opening the records of the parish Saint-Ludger.

1900 (June 4) Constitution of the municipality of the united townships of Risborough-and-Partie-of-Marlow.

1901 Gayhurst municipality has 377 inhabitants.

1905 Inauguration of the church Saint-Ludger. (January 1) Constitution of the township municipality of Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east.

1907 Establishment of the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis. (27 March) Canonical erection of the Saint-Samuel-de-Gayhurst.

1921 Municipality Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-account is 1565 inhabitants. (August 19) Constitution of the village municipality of Saint-Ludger by detaching the cantons of Aylmer and Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-est, as well as the united townships of Risborough-and-Partie-of-Marlow; the inhabitants of the country do not want to contribute to the cost of building sidewalks in the village, taxpayers latter get separation from their territory.



1923 Thepopulation of the parish of Saint-Ludger is 1,514 souls, that of St. Samuel, 1 400.

1932 (15 October) Canonical erection of the parish Saint-Ludger by detachment of Saint-Samuel-de-Gayhurst.

1941 Municipality Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east has 346 inhabitants, that of Risborough- Part-de-Marlow, 1072, and Saint-Ludger, 255 (July 31) Foundation of the Caisse populaire Saint-Ludger.

1961 The municipality of Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east has 318 inhabitants, that of Risborough -Part-de-Marlow, 1045, and Saint-Ludger,326.

1981 The municipality of Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east has 201 inhabitants, that of Risborough-Partie-de-Marlow 993, and Saint -Ludger, 229.

1990 The municipality of Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east has 200 inhabitants, that of Risborough-and-Partie-de-Marlow 944, and Saint-Ludger, 215.

1992 (October 3) The municipality Risborough-and-Partie-of-Marlow adopted the name Risboroughtragedy.

1996 (July 29) fatal  accident at the intersection of Highway 104 and path of the Range 7 (Risborough); collision of a car and a tractor-trailer; record: 4 dead, the driver of the car, Adrien Lacroix, 79, his daughter, Guylaine, 35, the son of Guylaine, Maxime, 5, and nephew Guylaine, Steve, 11(25.

1998 February) Grouping of municipalities Risborough, Gayhurst-Partie-Sud-east and Saint-Ludger as the latter.

2000 population of Saint-Ludger is 1 217 inhabitants.

2010 population of Saint-Ludger is 1193 habitants.
