Stornoway, Eastern Townships, Estrie, village-relais, to live the life, near Lac-Mégantic
Stornoway, originally called Bruceville, which we see the steeple atop a hill, is well off the intersection of roads 161 and 108 a natural crossroads now recognized as Village-Relais.  The village has just under 600 inhabitants. It is located at the crossroads of two major provincial highways (Highway 108 and Highway 161).

Stornoway was founded in 1858 by the arrival of the Scots came settle there to escape famine and poverty. Around 1860, the first French Canadian family, Legendre, is established. They successively built a carding mill (for spinning wool), a fulling mill (for cloth), a flour mill, a saw mill and a factory of doors and windows. Around 1885 the Scots, for lack of work, leave the area and in 1912 the French Canadians permanently install it
in 1852, a rich merchant Colin Noble and potash maker, settled there. It was the most prominent figure in the whole region. He was also justice of the peace, school commissioner and postmaster. He renamed the village Stornoway, in honor of a Scottish city, capital of the Lewis Island.
The Catholic Church (1920) houses a superb statue of St. Alphonsus, the renowned sculptor Louis Jobin.
The municipality of Stornoway was founded at the crossroads Lambton, St. Francis and Mégantic, in the 1840s In 1849, the first general store opened its doors here.

The village retains many heritage monuments such as the four cemeteries that serve as the final resting Scottish settlers in the Eastern Townships. A monument, installed opposite the church, recalls the story of the founding families.

Mill Legendre
Legendre mill was built in 1883 in the town of Stornoway, near Lake Megantic in the township of Winslow, on Legendre River. The mill was built by Télesphore Legendre to replace a dilapidated mill.

This flour mill has a structure of beams and lintels that intersect in perfect harmony. To prevent the formation of ice during the winter months, the builder of the mill had placed the paddle wheel inside.
Through a tangle of old relics, we guess the big wheel and gear system driving.Pulleys and attached leather straps sinew still testify to the active life of the mill until 1940.
It is true that over time, miller's left one by one, leaving the old mill memories of past, but today the town of Stornoway retains that heritage that has withstood the vagaries of time.
Legendre Mill is located 1.3 kilometers northwest of Stornoway, on the south side of the road 161 North to 495

Scotstown, the village of the beauty of life in full nature, living from which we breathe clean air, fresh, which invades your lungs, restoring energy, the Swamp-the Park -Scots, Eastern Townships, Quebec, Canada

Scotstown, the village of the beauty of life in full nature, living from which we breathe clean air, fresh, which invades your lungs, restoring energy, the Swamp-the Park -Scots, Eastern Townships, Quebec, Canada

The ville Scotstown, Eastern Townships, inaugurated last year a curvy gravel and multifunctional trail in the forest, with a length of 8.3 km (16 , 6 km return), for biking and hiking. It can also be an additional stretch of 4.5 km, thus extending the path inside the Franceville area of Mont-Mégantic National Park on the Valley floor. From Walter McKenzie Park in Scotstown, The course has many stops decorated with interpretive signs, picnic tables and beautiful views, on the banks of the Rivière au Saumon and along the McLeod Creek.
Scotstown is ready to welcome you! So, the weekend of Victoria Day than Thanksgiving, you can go biking and hiking.

The park is closed for a short period of hunting until mid-December. In mid-December, the park is reopened to tourists and accessible again to thaw for the ball, practice your favorite winter sports, cross country skiing since you open your own tracks.
Please note that the parking lots of swamp stops Scots and Franceville colony are not cleared during the winter.
We offer 8.3 kilometers from multifunctional trail, to go totaling 16 kilometers for 6 round trip. You can continue for another 4.5 kilometers in direct extension of our runway inside the Franceville area of the National Park of Mount Mégantic (MMFN) (Valley track).
There are no access fees for the section inside the MMFN. This will take you to the stop beavers; this wonderful family hike totaling just over 25 kilometers (round trip) will be one of your favorite heart, for sure!

Parking lots are offered at three locations:
1 Walter Mackenzie Park in Scotstown,
2 Gazebo in defense of McLeod Brook                                                                    3 Opposite the entrance of Franceville MMFN.
For the two parking lots on the Franceville road, continue 4 km past the village of Scotstown.

From Montreal or Sherbrooke to get to Scotstown, Eastern Townships
From Montreal, Highway 10 Eastern Townships towards Sherbrooke and Sherbrooke, for the 108 or 112 East, take Route 214 to Scotstown. We invite you to comply with regulations, especially for your safety during the closed season for hunting. We emphasize respect for the environment and the obligation of your garbage.
Recall that our track is entirely gravel and forest (We recommend having a hybrid or mountain bike). It is safe because there is no circulation of motorized vehicles. Not being built on an old railway, it offers a pleasant meandering and allows access to families.

Moreover, it is not because our park took the name of a swamp that insects will cycle faster than you: specify that the track only cross our emblem "the swamp" that is also a superb ecosystem . The track is punctuated by stops, either along the River Salmon and the McLeod Creek.
These stops have several interpretive panels of the flora, fauna, forestry and history of the famous train log hauler. Moreover, children can embark on our response and do their own scenario! Two short trails offer beautiful views and picnic tables. A lunch more than perfect the sound of waterfalls!

The section inside the MMFN is just as beautiful. The quality of care, infrastructure and service SÉPAQ is well established. You want to extend with hiking on the ridge Franceville or on the new trail cliffs? Wow! You want to spend the night? Camping? Chalet ? Tent huttopia? Nothing is missing!
