Heritage Value


The heritage value of the René-Robert house rests on its historical interest. The house is one of the few witnesses of Lac-Drolet starts. The brothers Jean and Godefroy Drolet, early settlers of the Township of Gayhurst, settled near a lake. This one will be called Lake Drolet at the beginning of 1850. Thirty years later, in 1882, the place is quite populated and a chapel was built there. René-Robert La house is built as a rectory to the Catholic parish.


The name of St. Samuel is given to honor Fr. Samuel Garon serving the settlers there. Rectory building materials are offered by the parishioners. They raise the building by chore in September 1887. The Saint-Samuel-de-Gayhurst parish is canonically and civilly in 1907. Following the construction of a new presbytery in 1912, the rectory was converted into a private residence. In 1968, Saint-Samuel-de-Gayhurst adopts the name of Lac-Drolet in homage to the first settlers of the township.
